Established in 1987, Family Life Education (FLE) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the equity, education, and empowerment of low-income, minority families in the greater Hartford region. FLE’s mission is to build a stronger community by fostering meaningful partnerships and engaging families in a participatory process leading to self-efficacy: the belief and capacity to confidently exert control over one’s own motivation, behavior, and social environment. Services focused on parent education and support, family relationships, removing barriers to employment, and promoting wellness are provided free to qualified families. Applying a unique strengths-based approach grounded in principles of self-efficacy, FLE has helped thousands of families transform their circumstances of poverty and marginalization. Staff work closely with each family to help them develop self-awareness, take personal responsibility, feel empowered to meet stress and challenges, set and achieve goals, and control their future. This approach has proven to be effective in breaking the cycle of dependency and motivating participants to overcome obstacles that stand in the way of them realizing their full potential.
