Parkville Family Center families showed statistical improvement in
Parenting, Meeting Basic Needs and Social Support
Parkville Family Center children improved in self-help/social skills and in cognitive language skills
100% of Nurturing Families children were not abused or neglected
100% have HUSKY or other insurance and are on schedule with immunizations
100% of Nurturing Families teen parents have not had an additional child
81% of the teen and young parents were in school and/or working
98% did not have additional pregnancies
100% have formed educational/career plans leading to self-reliance
FAMILY SERVICES
Teen & Young Parent Support to help young single mothers build self-esteem return to and remain in school until graduation; find employment; learn positive parenting and communication; access and learn about proper health care including nutrition; find affordable housing and childcare; address domestic violence and substance abuse; practice the skills necessary develop leadership and self-sufficiency skills;
The Parkville Family Center, to increase school readiness and improve school performance of young children through Parent-Child Interaction, Parent Education and Support, Adult Education, Parent Advocacy and Leadership Development, School Readiness and Home Visiting; and
Nurturing Families program with long-term (5 years) intensive home visiting, including developmental screening, for first-time at-risk parents and their child as well as Nurturing Parenting sessions for parents/caregivers of children birth to 5.
AFFILIATIONS –Family Life staff work off-site at the City of Hartford Department of Health and Human Services Nurturing Families program, part of the Maternal Infant Outreach Program (MIOP) and the Department's Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program.
