On Saturday, September 11, 2010, Family Life Education moved to offices at the front of 30 Arbor Street South on the first floor. This move allows Family Life to proceed with its close collaboration with Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford (LVGH) and to further develop the Parkville Neighborhood Collaborative.
Beginning in August 2010, Literacy Volunteers has provided the Adult Education component of the Parkville Family Center, a program of Family Life. This collaboration builds on the strengths of both organizations- expanding the adult education offerings of the Family Center and bringing family support and quality early care to the children of LVGH students.
The Parkville Neighborhood Collaborative has grown from the interests of many community-based organizations, the local school, faith groups and businesses to address the gaps in service and avoid unnecessary duplication. Currently Family Life Education is spearheading pursuit of the State Office of Policy and Management Nonprofit Collaborative Incentive Grant to benefit and continue to build the collaborative. Part of the goal is to redirect funds toward programming by saving on back-office expenses through sharing administrative expenses and capital expenditures. Current collaborators include NextGen Leaders, Everybody Wins!CT, Real Art Ways, Wheeler Clinic and Youth United for Survival.
According to Candida Flores, Executive Director, "We are thankful for the support of the Archdiocese of Hartford since 1987 and Our Lady of Sorrows Church since 1990 for the use of the former school building at 39 Grace Street. We are glad for this opportunity to expand services for our families with Literacy Volunteers and Everybody Wins!CT. We are very excited about potential new ventures including a Children's Gym and Family Wellness Center in the larger space at Arbor Street. Stay tuned as we grow!"
